About Highlights for Children

Highlights for Children is a family media brand that has been nurturing children with excellent, wholesome, and innovative products for over 70 years.  Our wide variety of magazines and books are dedicated to helping them become their best selves—creative, curious, caring, and confident.

The last several years have seen a rapid growth of Highlights’ popular children’s publications internationally. To date, Highlights has launched versions of its publications in more than 40 countries. We are proud to bring Fun with a Purpose™ to your market.

Our Philosophy

Highlights Founders, Garry Cleveland Myers, Ph.D., and Caroline Clark Myers, wrote the mission statement that appears in every issue of Highlights:

This magazine of wholesome fun is dedicated to helping children grow in basic skills and knowledge, in creativeness, in ability to think and reason, in sensitivity to others, in high ideals and worthy ways of living—for children are the world's most important people™.

Today, Highlights for Children is committed to the same values that guided the Myerses' work. We still believe children are the world's most important people. We help children become their best selves by publishing content and creating experiences that engage, delight, and foster joyful learning. Children and families around the world enjoy our content every day—at home, in school, at play, and all the places in between.

The Skill-Building Fun of Highlights Puzzles

Highlights believes that thinking, reasoning, and creating is fun—the kind of fun that offers lasting satisfaction for children. All Highlights puzzles embody our motto—“Fun with a Purpose”—to deliver top-quality puzzles that are engaging, vibrant, and challenging.

Doing puzzles on a regular basis reinforces logic, critical thinking, reasoning, visual, reading, and math skills. All of our puzzles enhance problem-solving skills and urge kids to think creatively. Doing puzzles also builds persistence and increases focus. Children who are avid puzzlers also often find it easier to gather information, assess a situation, and find a quick solution to a problem.

Although parents and teachers know that puzzles are great for developing these skills, kids just know that puzzles are fun!

Favorite Characters and Features

Hidden Pictures™ puzzles are possibly the most popular feature in Highlights magazine, but it’s hard to decide which part of a Hidden Pictures puzzle is the most fun: the interesting and sometimes funny big scene, the clever ways that artists tuck little pictures inside big ones, or the great feeling you get when you find all the objects. All we know is that children love Hidden Pictures!

The feature first appeared in the June 1946 issue of Highlights and can currently be found on page 14 in every issue. From our original black-and-white scenes to brightly colored images to puzzles with sticker objects, we have a variety of products featuring Hidden Pictures puzzles to engage kids of all ages.
